Jama Masjid Agra

Description

Jama Masjid also is known as Jami Masjid in Agra is Situated opposite to the Agra Fort. Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan builds this mosque in 1648, and it is said that this mosque was dedicated to Jahanara Begum, his favourite daughter. It is one of the largest mosques in India which was built by the Mughals.

History

The Jama Masjid at Agra was built during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great. The glorified objective behind its formation explains its structure at a height. Also features a large courtyard where the obedient can gather to pray. Legend has it that Akbar occasionally swept the floor and gave azan, ca for prayer here and on Jun 26, 1579, Akbar even area the khutba himself.

Attraction

The architecture is very pleasant. Inside the mosque, the mihrab is flanked by graceful strokes of verses from the Quran. The material of construction, i.e. sandstone and multi coloured marbles, and the Jama Masjid has spacious courtyards and fountains. Beautiful floral patterns along with Persian inscriptions adorn the marble walls of the Masjid.
